Vanessa's passion for horses and riding actually started at H2J when she was 10 years old. She continued to ride, eventually becoming a junior counselor and buying her first pony. Now, at 26 years old she is actively pursuing her carrier as a professional and is even more passionate about the sport and the animals than ever. Prior to returning to H2J for the 2009 camp season Vanessa worked at the Tahquitz Equestrain Facility in Indio California as well as numerous other notable facilities across the country including a position as assistant barn manager at Crystal Springs Ranch where she was responsible for the production and coordination of many CWHJA horse shows. |
Alesia Riehl
|
Alesia was born in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, PA. In recalling Alesia’s childhood, her mother recounts that all she could talk about, starting at a very young age, was horses. At age 5 she started riding and by the age of 10 she was riding regularly, taking lessons twice a week and always looking forward to riding more. During the summer of her 11th year she got her first job as a working student at a local riding stable/show barn, working in trade for her lessons. She was at the barn all the time! It was during this time that Alesia had opportunity to work with a number of notable top trainers, showing at Sewickly, Devon, Harrisburg and all throughout Western Pennsylvania. At the age of 20 she moved to South Florida and found herself in equestrian heaven. She attended Palm Beach Jr. College and supported herself by training polo ponies. She worked at that job for two years until a terrible accident and head injury forced her to give up polo. However, it was only six months later that she was back at it in the hunter jumper world. Being in one of the equestrian hotspots of the world, she had the opportunity to work for and ride with some of the best; Rodney Jenkins, Ronnie Mutch, Bert Mutch, Greg Best, Teddi Ismond, Jennifer Bieling, and Pat Van Dyke to name a few. Age 34 found Alesia looking for greener pastures and she decided to move west. She packed her bags and moved to Colorado where she took a job working in Corporate Travel. It was a great job, taking her around the world several times. After a few years of this on-the-go lifestyle she missed the horses so much that she gave up travel and landed a job that kept her grounded locally in Aspen. She bought a few young horses and ponies that she has been training and selling and has since bought a 20 acre horse farm called Bottoms Up Farm. In addition to joining the H2J staff this year, Alesia teaches all over the Western Slope of Colorado, traveling to Ridgeway, Grand Junction and Paonia. |
